Special sensors

 

We offer a variety of special sensors for challenging embedded applications, like rocket motors, bridges, and the human body.

All special sensors have been developed through R&D efforts with our partners.

Dual bond stress & temperature sensor (DBST)

APPLICATION

  • SOLID ROCKET MOTORS
  • RUBBER/METAL INTERFACES
  • CFRP/GFRP/METAL INTERFACES

FUNCTION

  • MEASURES NORMAL OR SHEAR STRESS AND TEMPERATURE AT INTERFACE/BONDLINE
  • ALLOWS NON-DESTRUCTIVE MONITORING OF THE BOND
  • ALLOWS NON-DESTRUCTIVE PROPELLANT AGE DETERMINATION
DBST

Pressure: Standard, calibrated bond stress range: +/- 700 kPa (7 bar) / +/- 100 PSI, traction and compression

Sensitivity: 3 mV / bar; 20 mV / 100 PSI

Overpressure: 4 x standard full scale without changes

Maximum over-range without failure: 30 x standard full scale

Non-standard: the sensor can be customized to measure higher pressure or traction.

Temperature: 0.56 mV / °C; 1 mV / °F

Input: 1 mA – 4 mA constant current

Safety: Fail Safe, does not ignite propellant, intrinsically fused. In use at many solid rocket motor manufacturers.

  • MEASURES THE BORE DIAMETER OF A ROCKET MOTOR IN-SITU AND ITS VARIATION WITH TEMPERATURE
  • MEASURES CHANGES AND EVOLUTION OF CHARGE SHAPE, DETECTS CREEP/SLUMP
  • ALLOWS BORE CRACK DETECTION

Embedded rebar sensors for reinforced concrete

APPLICATION

  • CRITICAL CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES (e.g. BRIDGES)
  • INTEGRATED INTO REBAR STRUCTURES BEFORE THEY ARE EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE

FUNCTION

  • MEASURES THE FORCE LOAD ACTING ON THE REBAR SEGMENT
  • DETECTS STRUCTURAL STIFFNESS DEGRADATION

 

Haptic surface

APPLICATION

  • FLEXIBLE MEMBRANES
  • 2D HAPTIC DEVICES/TOUCHPADS
  • ROBOTIC COMPONENTS SUCH AS FINGERS, HANDS, FEET
